Versoly Glossary

Versoly glossary is a collection of commonly used web design and web development terms. It can also be used as a guide to learn about many of the features Versoly provides.

Components panel The components panel includes your site components that can be searched by name or content.

Theme panel The theme panel allows you to edit fonts, colors and more advanced theme classes.

Shortcuts Shortcuts allow you to reduce time navigating the visual editor by clicking the mouse. It can be much faster to access panels and take actions on an element.

Collection settings Collection settings allow you to change properties such as the fields, slugs and SEO meta tags.

Base URL The base URL feature is used when you're reverse proxying a Versoly site with a custom subdomain. It fixes SEO issues with canonical urls and sitemaps.

Element animation panel The element animation panel is used to animate an element. It is built on TAOS an open source library for animations.

Publish collection Publish collection is used to publish just 1 collection. This is faster than publishing all the collections. It can be accessed from inside the collection or a page that uses that collection.

Asset manager The asset manager is where you upload content such as images and PDFs for your site.

Site JS Site JS is used to add the same JavaScript to your site. An example might custom code for a chat widget that exists on all pages.

Head content Head content can be used on a site or page. Certain analytics or AB testing solutions recommending adding their scripts inside the head element.

Page backup Versoly automatically backs up your page changes and allows you to manually back up a page if you're planning on making large edits to it.

Site CSS Site CSS is used if you want to apply CSS across your site. An example might be CSS that isn't easily handled by Tailwind and is used on multiple pages inside of your site.

Pages A site can contain many pages which are HTML documents. A page contains a head and body. Versoly includes static, collection and utility pages.

Page versioning Page versioning allows you to create multiple versions of the same page. This is useful if you want to edit the design of a page but still be able to publish the old page easily.

Versoly CMS Versoly CMS allows you to create collections that can be connected to your site to build dynamic content and pages.

Element Panel The element panel is on the right-hand side of the visual editor. It allows you to edit an elements style, options and animations.

Pages panel The pages panel includes static pages, collection pages and utility pages.

Collection page A static page is a HTML document with fixed content. When published it will be a single web page on your site.

Element Tag The element tag is useful for semantic HTML which is good for SEO. An element tag can be a section, link or more complex tags such as dialogs and details.

Quick actions Quick actions are used to search 100+ actions that can edit elements, open panels and create new pages.

Component Components are repeatable code that can be used for elements or sections of a page.

Collection Folder Collection folders allow you to organise your CMS and add collections inside of them.

Component property A component can have properties. A property is made of a name, variable and type. The type is used to generate a custom UI component inside the element options panel.

Element styles panel The element styles panel is used to style the element using Tailwind classes but doesn't require developer skills. The types of styles change depending on the visual editor mode.

Forms Forms allow visitors to submit data on your website.

Templates Templates allow you to create a site much faster. A template usually includes static pages, collection pages, components and a theme based around a use case such as SaaS or marketing agency.

Developer mode Developer mode has access to Monaco code editor which can be combined with the visual editor to edit existing content.

Plugins Plugins add extra functionality to a page. Popular plugins include sliders, marquees and icons. Versoly has native plugins such as Swiperjs for sliders. A native plugin can be edited visually instead of using code.

Workspace A workspace is used to store sites in. You can invite freelancers and team members to edit and review sites.

Item settings Item settings allow you to change the content inside a collection item.

Element HTML attribute Element HTML attributes are special words with values used inside the opening tag of an element to control the element's behaviour.

Collection A collection is a group of defined fields. You can add dynamic items to that collection. For example a blog collection with have blog post collection items.

UI kit A UI kit includes styling for elements, components and colors. Each Versoly site comes with a UI kit. It will most likely be based on Versoly UI and could be extended to add new components.

Publish site Publish site is used to publish all the static pages and can also publish collection pages. This is useful for big updates and SEO changes such as the sitemap or redirects.

Custom domain A custom domain is a unique branded name that identifies a website. All paid site plans include a custom domain and SSL with it.

Element ID An element ID is a HTML attribute added to an element to access it from a link or using JavaScript. It has to be unique on a page.

Insert panel The insert panel is used to add elements and components to the page.

Vue Vue is a very popular JavaScript framework. Vue syntax is easy to understand and works well with a website builder. Versoly leverages a subset of Vue syntax to create dynamic content.

Personal cloneables Personal cloneables allow you to save code and reuse on other sites.

Static page A static page is a HTML document with fixed content. When published it will be a single web page on your site.

Designer mode Designer mode gives you access to more advanced styling features.

External scripts External scripts can be used on a site or page. Chat widgets and other 3rd party integrations can be added to external scipts. If added to site external scripts they will be added to every page.

Responsive Versoly is built on mobile first responsive design using Tailwind. Any change on mobile will also occur on larger breakpoints such as tablet or laptop. Mobile first makes it easier to create sites for mobile and desktop at the same time.

Collection page type There are 2 different types of collection pages. A collection page with a list type can be used with pagination and group by. Whereas a details page is used with individual items.

Workspace invite Invite freelancers or team members to your workspace.

Workspace cloneables Workspace cloneables allow you to save an element, section or dynamic content. Anyone in your workspace can reuse it on any page or site in that workspace.

Collection item A collection includes many collection items. These collection items are defined by the fields on that collection.

Account plan An account plan is used to identify the features you can use on your account. Paid account plans can be invited to workspaces at no extra cost.

Code editor The code editor allows you to import, edit and export code. Editing code can be faster than using the visual editor in some situation and if you can already code has less of a learning curve.

Layout panel The layout panel includes library components, personal and workspace cloneables.

Visual editor modes The visual editor includes 3 different modes. These are non-technical mode, designer mode and developer mode.

Noindex meta tag Versoly allows you to add noindex meta tag on static pages, collection pages and individual items. This makes it easy to not index content.

Navigator panel The navigator panel allows you to navigate around the elements starting from body down to inline elements such as paragraphs and headers.

Site backup Versoly allows you to backup your site. Currently it backs up your site settings, pages, components and theme.

Visual editor Versoly's visual editor is built on HTML and allows you to edit code using a GUI. Dynamic content can be visually connected and edited inside the visual editor as well.

Collection field A collection has many fields. Each field has a name, slug and type. They're used to create a UI to edit an item easily.

Versoly attributes Versoly attributes is a way of creating interactive sites inside Versoly using just attributes on elements. The syntax is based on Vue and Petite Vue.

Publish page Publish page allows you to publish just that pages content. It is faster than publish site and useful for quick changes.

Non-technical mode Non-technical mode allows you to quickly create pages, add components from the site and library and edit the content easily.

Smart collection Smart collections are pre-built collections inside Versoly that give you production ready dynamic pages. For example a blog or help center.

Integrations Versoly has native integrations with analytics, chat widget and conversion boosting providers. A native integration are easier to add than custom code and are maintained by Versoly.

Publish page to staging Publish page to staging allows you to test a page and share with collaborators for feedback.

CMS panel The CMS panel shows collections, related pages and related collection pages.

Publish item Publish item is used to publish just 1 item. This is faster than publishing a collection and works great if you have just a small update. It can be accessed from inside the collection item or a page that uses that item.

Export site Export site allows you to export static pages from a site. The exported folder can easily be uploaded to any hosting solution or merged with existing code.

Versoly basics Versoly basics is a term used to encapsulate the core features of Versoly and knowledge required to use it. These include HTML, Tailwind and Versoly UI.

Element A HTML document is built with elements. An element could be a section or inline elements such as paragraphs and headers. Versoly allows you to create perfect Semantic HTML which can help with SEO and accessibility.

Site plan A site plan is used to identify the features you have access to for that site. Paid site plans give you access to a custom domain and more monthly visitors.

Element options panel The element options panel is used to change the element usually this involves HTML attributes but could also the tag and other elements.

Element class name The element class name is the primary way to style an element. Utility classes from Tailwind are added to the class name to change the color, size and much more.
